S.A.L.E.S Alcohol Server Training

S.A.L.E.S Alcohol Server Training FAQ/Help

What is S.A.L.E.S. Online Training?

S.A.L.E.S is the revolutionary educational program for employers and employees of drinking establishments created by the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association (MLBA). It's an acronym that stands for Selling Alcohol Legally Effectively and Safely.

Can the Online S.A.L.E.S course reduce my Dram Shop insurance?

Just like the MLBA's classroom S.A.L.E.S training, it can reduce your Dram Shop insurance rates by up to 15% (depending on your insurance agency)

What does the Online S.A.L.E.S course consist of?

The student will start with a 25 question Alcohol IQ Test to help them determine what they already know and help them learn what things they do not know. The student will be given immediate feedback after they answer each question whether they are right or wrong and an explanation of each answer.

After successfully answering all 25 questions the student will then be taken to the first of 10 video segments which consist of a video with sound on the left and on the right will be important information that coincides with the video. After each video segment (each lasting from 2 - 5 minutes) the student will be required to answer a series of questions in order to move on to the next segment. Once the 10 video segments are completed, the student will receive a certificate of completion that can be printed out for your records and the students information will be logged in the S.A.L.E.S Online Training database that they have successfully completed the training.

The 10 Video segments are as follows:

  1. Underage Consumption and Purchasing
  2. Carding
  3. Valid ID's
  4. Checking ID's
  5. Profiling Customers
  6. Intoxication Factors
  7. Customer Management
  8. Serving Strategies
  9. Dealing with Intoxicated Patrons
  10. Other Managing Issues

If you are an MLBA member in good standing (have paid your membership dues) you qualify for a discount on the Online S.A.L.E.S Training and can buy "blocks" of trainings of 10 or 25. Your MLBA account number is on your MLBA membership dues invoice as well as the back page of your MLBA Newsletter, "The Rough Draught". If you still can't find your account number please contact MLBA at info@mlba.com for your account number."

When I type in my account number it tells me that I am not a member, why?

Your membership may have expired. Remember, just because you receive PROOF Magazine does not mean that you are a MLBA member. Members in good standing must pay their yearly membership dues to get all the benefits of MLBA membership, including discounts on S.A.L.E.S training. If you feel there is an error please email MLBA at info@mlba.com.

How do I become an MLBA member?

If you are a business licensed to sell alcohol you can become an MLBA member. Simply go to www.mlba.com and click on "Membership". There is a membership application that you can fill out and mail or fax along with your dues to the MLBA office. In a few days you will be sent a membership package and the Online S.A.L.E.S database will be updated to accept your account number and allow you to access the discounted training and to buy "blocks" of discounted trainings.

What methods of payment are available?

You can use Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.

What if I want to buy a block of trainings for my employees?

Simply choose and pay for a block of 10 or 25 (if you are an MLBA member). You will be given a username and password that can be used by each of your employees that you want trained when they register for a course. This way you do not have to have each of your employees pay separately. The block of trainings are good for exactly one year from date of purchase.

How can I find out how many trainings that I have left in my "block" and when they expire?

Contact the MLBA for info.

What if I get disconnected or am unable to complete the training, will I have to start all over?

No. Each student will be given a login and password so if they want to complete the training at a later time, it will start off at the video segment that they left off.

I've forgotten my password, what is my password?

Go here to have it emailed to you.

The video is very choppy and stalls often?
